Police Department

Police Officer

The City of Fort Wright is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, individual for the position of Full-Time Police Officer.  This position will be responsible for the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances and will report directly to the Chief of Police and/or his designee.

The successful candidate must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, free from felony conviction, have a valid KY driver’s license or be capable of attaining one, & have a HS diploma or equivalent at the time of appointment. Applicants must satisfactorily pass all pre-employment requirements in accordance with KRS 15.382, the Peace Officers Professional Standards Act. 

Salary Range (DOQ) is $50,953.83 to $68,527.23, plus occasional over-time, special details, holiday pay, and a $4,000 state hazardous duty incentive upon receipt of POPS Certification. Excellent benefit package provided, which currently includes the following:

Public Works Department

Public Works Laborer (Full-Time)

The City of Fort Wright is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and experienced individual for the position of Full-Time Public Works Laborer.  The individual in this position will be responsible for duties that range from manual labor to skilled tasks and will report directly to the Public Works Director.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, a demonstrated proficiency in the operation of power tools & heavy machinery, and excellent customer service abilities.  He or she must also be able to bend, lift and move items in excess of 50 pounds several times a day, work outside in adverse weather conditions, and work some weekends and on-call.  This individual will also be responsible for duties including, but not limited to the maintenance, repair, and construction of city streets, sidewalks, public buildings & property, city vehicles; mowing of public rights of ways and public property; installation of traffic signs; plowing and salting city streets; litter abatement; the maintenance and upkeep of various Parks & the South Hills Civic Center; oversee work release program participants; and other duties as assigned. 

The successful candidate should possess minimally - a High School Diploma or equivalency, supplemented by previous work experience; a valid driver’s license; a valid Commercial Driver’s License (preferred but not required); and a demonstrated proficiency in the operation of heavy equipment and power tools. 

Salary Range (DOQ) is $37,887.02 to $50,953.83, plus occasional over-time. Excellent benefit package provided, which currently includes the following:

Public Works Laborer (Part-Time)

The City of Fort Wright, KY, is seeking a dynamic, highly self-motivated individual for the position of Part-Time Public Works Laborer.  The position reports directly to the Public Works Director and is responsible for a variety of manual labor related work (with a primary focus on grass mowing, snow removal, and litter abatement on public properties and public rights-of-way).

The successful candidate should possess minimally - a High School Diploma or equivalency, supplemented by previous work experience; a valid driver’s license; a demonstrated proficiency in the safe operation of equipment, and an ability to render high quality service to our residents.

Hourly Rate of Pay (DOQ):  $16 to $18 per hour – approx. 15 to 20 hours per week.

Fire Department

Firefighter/Paramedic (Full-Time)

The City of Fort Wright is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic.  This position will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to, fire prevention/suppression, emergency medical duties, rescue, report preparation, equipment maintenance, etc.  These individuals will report directly to the Fire/EMS Chief and/or his designee and must perform skilled responsibilities for a department that has approximately 1500 service calls per year.

The successful candidate should possess a high school diploma or equivalency; A Valid Driver’s License; Current National Registry Paramedic Certification or KY Paramedic Certification; ACLS, CPR, and PALS Certifications; KY 400 HR Certification or Firefighter I and II Certification; CPAT Card (KY Firefighter laterals are exempt).  All applicable certifications should be supplemented by proven responsible Fire Rescue/EMS work, or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

This is a 24/48 hour shift rotation including a Kelly Day, that involves hazardous work in inclement weather conditions.

Starting Salary (DOQ) for each position is $51,000, plus 416 hours of regularly scheduled over-time and a $4,000 state hazardous duty incentive. Excellent benefit package provided, which currently includes the following:
